RAW IBOGA ROOT BARK
MEDICINE JOURNEYS IN
MEXICO AND NICARAGUA
Have you ever considered the relevance of the existence of psychedelics and peptides in nature? Did humans really just find them by chance? Is life itself by chance? These questions point toward the deep wisdom of an existential intelligence and the oracles of Mother Nature being here for a reason. RootofBeing offers two of nature’s medicinal gifts. Kambo, a cleansing Amazonian frog excretion and Iboga, a psychoactive, African root bark. Kambo and Iboga work together to cleanse and ground us in the essence of being. Removing physical and mental toxicity, these oracles of Mother Nature call to those yearning for cleansing and vibrant living. We are wired to connect to the Earth but civilization has built us into separation. Our retreats in Mexico and Nicaragua promote reconnection and recollection of the nature within. Every heartbeat and every breath.
RootofBeing has two locations. Pescadero in the Baja and Popoyo in Nicaragua. They share rocky pacific coastlines, epic surf and white sand beaches along with warm, welcoming, Latin-American culture. Nicaragua, a more rugged experience, has custom design retreats ranging from half day to three day, catering to private groups and local expats. Most fly-in guests are directed to the Baja for ease of travel, deluxe accommodation and an all-in-one experience at PureBaja Retreat Centre in Pescadero. The foundation of both retreats is the same; preparing with Kambo and journeying in silence with Iboga. The tropical pacific is next door at both locations for healing and recovery and we promote as much immersion as possible pre and post ceremony. Join a Baja retreat or create a custom adventure medicine journey to Nicaragua.
An Amazonian frog and an African root. A synergetic pair from distant land masses, joined in ceremonial union. A body-cleanse and a mind-journey, perfectly suited to one another like soul mates. Kambo burns away our negative energy as well as flushing toxicity which heightens sensitivity to Iboga. The frog also has a powerful neutralizing effect which is why it was used by hunters in the Amazon to remove their anticipation and their predator projection, blending them into the jungle. Pre Iboga, Kambo neutralizes the anticipation of ceremony, levelling us in presence, ready to enter the Iboga journey free of projection and with a sense of serenity.
Most of what is written online is about Ibogaine. There are even many instances of Ibogaine simply referred to as Iboga which is not true. Iboga root bark is the raw, natural material shaved from the root of the Tabernanthe Iboga shrub from West Central Africa. It contains the bark pulp and a mix of twelve alkaloids including Ibogaine. From the perspective of creative intelligence, this plant is not here by chance and it was meant to be consumed the way nature created it. Ibogaine on the other hand, is a single, isolated alkaloid extracted from the root bark. It is a purified chemical compound, typically Ibogaine Hydrochloride, a white powder that is fifty times more concentrated than in the bark. All the clinical trials and risk reports are from Ibogaine, not root bark. The root bark experience is the wholesome, natural journey, ingested slowly over a long period of time. The volume and composition of the bark means the twelve alkaloids continue to be absorbed all the way through the digestive system, gifting journeyers with an entire spectrum of healing that Ibogaine is missing.
Hello my name is Jeremy and my son’s name is Atlas. I have been serving Kambo and Iboga for twelve years. I'm happy to share the path to the medicine but it's a long story worthy of a phone call. Link at the bottom. Space holding began in the rainforests of Squamish in Canada, where I built a humble dual-yurt lodge to host retreats. It was an epic chapter in my life, living amongst the cedar trees, next door to the Cheakamus river. My ex-wife Deena and I served hundreds of journeyers in that magic space but as it did for many, 2020 changed everything. We were forced to stop the retreats and with the end of that chapter, so began a new one with the birth of our son. These powerful catalysts opened the door to a new life in a new country. In what feels like a full circle, I began the creation of another medicine space with my son Atlas by my side. His wonder and mystical perception of life is rejuvenating and fatherhood has brought space holding to the next level. My Iboga practice is meditative, not shamanic, with silence as the foundation. A deep voyage in letting go of the characters played by both journeyers and space holders. All are equal and we are learning and growing together. My gift is nurturing and with complete admiration for authentic humanity, I hold space for those willing to see the life they created for better or worse, exposing illusions and setting them free. My space and medicine are held in trust and love to encourage remembrance. By shedding who we are not, the truth of who we are remains. That remembrance is the miracle.
The medicine journey offers an opportunity to break free of patterns and conditioning, but it goes so much deeper. This is a journey into our hearts, piercing through the void of disconnection. Silence is the key to reconnection. It is the foundation to the experience with what may be the longest mediation of your life. These retreats are not about more answers. They are about less questions. Sharing medicine in meditation with nurturing care, we honour your commitment to wellness. When one rises, we all rise. Understanding that there are many paths to self realization, we offer this support along the way. Not as a lineage or dogma to be learned or followed. Our mission is to provide a nurturing environment and a healing frequency through the use of naturally occurring oracles. A deep respect that these medicines represent Mother Nature’s invitation to connect and evolve. Sometimes the medicine journey is understandable and relevant, sometimes metaphorical and symbolic but often it's chaotic, patchy and obscured by shadows. Regardless of the perception of what we "think" happened, daily life is where the real changes are made with every choice. Iboga promotes radical responsibility. The end of the victim. Ultimately, we are the medicine and life is the ritual.
Kambo on its own is typically offered to our local inquiries in both locations. Popoyo and Cabo San Lucas. There are single session and multiple session options.
PureBaja retreat centre is a forty min drive from the San Jose del Cabo airport SJD. The retreat space is perfect with comfortable accommodations for all the guests. Cozy casitas surround a central, coarse sand courtyard with a pool, outdoor kitchen/bbq, fire pit and lounge areas as well as a yoga room that serves as the journey space. On arrival day, Kambo is served one on one with each guest throughout the afternoon followed by pre-ceremony guidance. As light dims, we open the journey around a fire. After sharing our truth, we move into the silent journey space for the remainder of the night and most of the second day. The second night is spent in the provided accommodation. The third day and night ensures full recovery and integration, maintaining a container with unconditional support, including individual guidance, group yoga and a closing fire circle.
For those hesitant about a larger dose of root bark, there is an introduction journey offered in both locations. Kambo is recommended the day before to cleanse and prepare. The day journey is a much smaller dose of Iboga taken in the morning and digested in silent meditation through the day. The late afternoon welcomes ambient music and movement as well as optional body work followed by a recovery smoothie and a fire circle. This can be small groups or one on one.
The home location in Popoyo is a house with a second floor journey space. It is an open air experience with all the sounds and energy of the jungle as well as the vast expansive view. Journeyers choose their own accommodation other than the two night retreat. It is close to Playa Guasacate that has plenty of beachside options. Arrival is mid afternoon for Kambo followed by a recovery smoothie and a jungle walk. In twilight, we gather around the fire to open the ceremony. As night blankets, we move up into the palapa for the remainder of the silent Iboga journey continuing well into the next day. Ambient music breaks the silence and journeyers begin movement and rebirth. Rehydration drinks and nourishing snacks are offered as we integrate around the fire that evening and finally move back up to the space to sleep for the night. After greeting the sunrise, we say our goodbyes.

I can’t emphasize enough how important this is. Connecting with me to explore life, medicine, your journey, my journey and the fine details of the retreat, will ensure that your decision is the right one. Discovery calls are unlimited. I honestly enjoy every one of them. The last eleven years has broadened my perception of humanity, hearing from literally thousands of people about what led them to consider plant medicine. The depth of these conversations is something that is rarely reached in my day to day interactions so I am deeply grateful for your call regardless of wether you end up joining a retreat. Email or text me. Links at the bottom.
This experience with Iboga has changed my life. My soul feels lighter, my mind more quiet.
Jeremy is the epitome of how a man needs to show up in the world for others. The way he cared for our private group over the course of 10 days was impressive.
Set and setting are so important when doing medicine work, and I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful space or skilled facilitator.
Intrigued, I allowed Jeremy in, trusted his guidance, his craft, his knowledge. I'll forever be happy I did.
Jeremy made sure I was in the right frame of mind to even attend, and that made me realize he had my best interest at heart.
I would love to hear what led you to plant medicine
